Angke Train Station Strewn with Trash Piles

Jakarta residents’ awareness for clean and healthy lifestyle by not littering is apparently still far from expectation. Evidently, trash is still pilling up along the bank of Angke Train Station railways at RW 01, Angke Urban Village, Tambora Sub-District, West Jakarta.

Based on beritajakarta.com observations, the trash piles are mostly sacks containing patchworks and household wastes. The patchworks are the remaining pieces of convection industry located around the site.

“Those patchworks were produced by convection industry that has disposed their trashes haphazardly,” told Lukman (41), a local, Friday (10/3).

Meanwhile, Angke Train Station Head, M Nurdin, admitted that he already knew about this problem. Because of those trash piles, trains had to slow down their speed to avoid unwanted things.

“Trash piles can damage a device to shift the railway track to the destination. If it was buried under the trash, it could be very dangerous because a train could fall,” he uttered.

According to Nurdin, his party has difficulties in cleaning up the trash piles due to its volume is too much. Moreover, the locals are still throwing trashes haphazardly.

Responding on this matter, Head of Tambora Sub-District, Yunus Burhan, said that cleanliness around Angke Train Station is the authority of PT KAI.

“The (area) within railways is the responsibility of PT KAI. All this time there is no report on trash in railways,” he stated.
